Adult Dance CombinationThis class is designed for adults who want to experience a variety of dance styles including ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary and hip hop. Whether you simply want to refresh your dance skills, or you are just beginning, we present a variety of steps and choreography that encourages dancers to work at their own pace. Adult Social DanceCalling all adults! This is your chance to develop your dancing skills! Over the course of this class, dancers will learn a variety of social dances including East Coast Swing, Social Cha Cha, Waltz, and Salsa. This class provides the perfect opportunity for dance variety, fun, and exercise. All Around- IntermediateAcceptance into this class is by evaluation and acceptance by the director. Intended for students who wish to be proficient in all 3 disciplines of performing arts, Drama, Dance and Voice. It is also a good stepping stone for future involvement in the performing group SALTPAC. One hour a week is dedicated to Drama and Voice performance technique. The other hour is a dance class on foundational technique. The director will assist in directing the student to the right dance class based on the student’s level of experience. The students learn parts of the stage, projection, how to take direction, reading and interpreting a script and blocking. Emphasis on Musical Theater and in addition, exposure to various styles and genres of performance, theater, TV, commercials, persuasive speech and monologues and learning supporting vocal and dance numbers. BalletThe foundation of all dance forms, body placement, flexibility, balance, alignment, strength and technique are achieved through barre and center floor work. We follow the RAD (Royal Academy of Dance based in London) syllabus of ballet training. The RAD curriculum stresses proper placement of torso, hips, and legs. For our beginning students, emphasis is on the coordination of arms and head with a concentration on smooth transitions throughout the exercises. Training at this level is designed to establish a basic foundation in ballet. Students develop practical skills, muscular self-control and basic coordination and expression. More advanced ballet students will aim to develop strength and stability in the demonstration of balance, control, extension, fluidity. Suppleness and smooth graceful movements are developed along with the coordination of head, arms, legs, and body. For advanced students, the curriculum also includes classes in classical technique, repertoire studies, character dance, adagio studies, music, ballet history and body conditioning, concentrating on the mastery of more complex movements and combinations. The ongoing development of performance skills is stressed in all levels of ballet class Pre-Primary Ballet (Pre-school and Kindergarten)This is an introduction to ballet incorporating basic terminology with the positions of the feet, hands, and body. Using age appropriate activities and props, little dancers will have fun while gaining a good foundation to classical ballet. Ballet 1This class will follow a traditional ballet class format to include basic barre exercise and center practice. Children will also demonstrate skills and combinations traveling across the floor. Physical discipline, general body awareness, and control coordinating with primary technique and terminology. Ballet 2This level adds understanding of the relationship between music, rhythm and controlled movement with proper ballet technique. Ballet 3New and more complex material will be taught at an accelerated pace. Student will begin to learn basic ballet history and develop a knowledge and great appreciation of the great ballets and classical music. Ballet 4-5 An advanced class combining skills from previous level classes and correlating steps to lengthy and complex combinations with correct technique, extensive terminology and knowledge of the art of ballet itself. Pre-pointe and pointe are introduced at this level. Boys FunkThis hip hop and tap combination class is designed just for boys! Students will learn two performance routines to demonstrate both basic tap timing and rhythm, along with hip hop, funk, and break dancing. This is the perfect class for boys to develop coordination and timing. Competition Dance ClassThis class will be offered for students that want to take their dancing to the next level. Students must meet the audition requirements or enroll with teacher approval. Competition dances will include a variety of dance forms. This is a choreography only class and all students that choose to participate must be enrolled in a ballet or technique class as well. Students will participate in a minimum of two competitions a year. Additional fees for costumes and competitions will apply. Creative Movement (Pre-school and Kindergarten)Students will start to lay the foundation of creative dance, ballet, tap, and gymnastics while experiencing the fun, and excitement of their first dance class. Our tiniest dancers may not know it but they are learning fundamentals as they have fun with creative imagery. While enjoying dance class, students are learning to work on basic motor skills including running, skipping, hopping, leaping & jumping. Students will begin to learn single & double sounds with an emphasis on musicality and music awareness while learning rhythms and enhancing their fine motor skills. Singing, props, routines, short stories and steps that will help coordination development, social skills and learning to follow directions are incorporated. Hip HopThis form of contemporary dance is seen in music videos. Hip-Hop evolved out of street and break dancing and is characterized by its athletic and bouncy style. Hip-Hop is set to a strong, contemporary beat, builds stamina, and emphasizes body isolations, attitude, coordination, free-style movement, and rhythm. Hip-Hop class includes a lot of choreography and memorization of patterns and sequences. Hip Hop/Jazz & Tap ComboIntroduction and continuation to Hip Hop/Jazz & Tap in a structured but friendly, music-filled class. A variety of music is used to make this class fun and educational! Students will learn terminology, warm-up exercises, combinations and routines to age appropriate music. HulaHula classes for youth and adults consist of dance, music, and other training in various performing arts of the South Pacific, which includes Hawaiian, Polynesian, Tahitian, and Samoan styles. This is a formal training program for students with the focus on learning the South Pacific dances as a true art form with attention to precision, technique, execution, and showmanship. Lyrical Jazz/ContemporaryContemporary or Lyrical is a hybrid of ballet, jazz, lyrical and modern dance styles. It is a ballet-based technique that allows a greater range of movement than the strict body lines and foot work in traditional schools of ballet. Contemporary Ballet exposes dancers to a wide range of techniques that fosters versatility. This class focuses on centering, strengthening the body, increasing flexibility, improving balance, proper placement, body alignment, fluidity and emotion. The dancer learns to let the music and their own passion guide the movement. The class consists of a warm up with stretching, centre work, and a full dance routine at the end of the class which is all set to contemporary music. The class will let you express yourself through dance and music, often times the choreography tells the story of the music. Sensory Dance ClassThis is a basic creative movement class with a focus on sensory exploration designed for students with special needs or learning disabilities. This class is for children requiring additional support encouraging attention, social skills, behavior, transitions and communication. Students will start to lay the foundation of dance learning to work on basic motor skills including running, skipping, hopping, leaping and jumping. Consultation will be allowed for individualized goals as well as a smaller class, allowing for increased 1:1 attention with 4-6 children per class. TapTap class will provide students with a strong understanding of basic tap foundation, terminology, timing and rhythm. An emphasis will be placed on explanation of terminology, execution of basic steps through more challenging rhythms, precise tap sounds, improvisational techniques, coordination, syncopation and technical execution. TechniqueBallet and jazz technique will be the focus of this class, with concentration on proper positioning of the body for turns, jumps, leaps, and bar work. Short choreography combinations will be part of the curriculum, but this class will not include a performance routine. This class will also focuses on centering, strengthening the body, increasing flexibility, improving balance, proper placement and body alignment. Middle Eastern Belly DanceBelly dancing is an exciting Middle Eastern dance handed down from ancient times to the present. This class will cover fast traveling steps, isolations, combinations, figure 8’s, soft, flowing hands & arms and the beautiful Veil dance! Dance to a fantastic mix of world rhythms; learn the basics for a routine. Improve flexibility, increase self-confidence, and bring out your inner dancer with this total body workout! Mommy and Me GymboreeIt is never too early to get your little one started! This class is for moms and their toddlers age 1-3. A fun filled obstacle course is set up for little ones to develop coordination and get some of that youthful energy out! This course also provides social time and interaction. TechniqueBallet and jazz technique will be the focus of this class, with concentration on proper positioning of the body for turns, jumps, leaps, and barre work. Short choreography combinations will be part of the curriculum, but this class will not include a performance routine. This class also focuses on centering, strengthening the body, increasing flexibility, improving balance, proper placement and body alignment. Tumbling/Acrobatics- BeginningBeginning tumbling class will provide students with the basic knowledge of floor exercise, terminology, and flexibility. Students will have fun in this up beat energetic class, learning basic moves such as rolls, handstands, cartwheels and much more. Tumbling/Acrobatics- IntermediateIntermediate tumbling class is for those who have been in at least one year or more of tumbling and is by teacher recommendation. They will learn proper techniques and more advanced tumbling skills. They will be learning to build strength and flexibility and asked to do homework with daily exercises. Students will have fun while their skill level grows. Worship DanceThe worship dance course consists of dance instruction and choreography that includes lyrical, sign language dance, and hip hop. The program is for both boys and girls and will focus on dance technique for all ability levels and age groups. Students will share their talents and routines with the East Hill Church body and will have the opportunity to visit other area churches to perform. |
